For anyone who has experienced that pesky throbbing between your temples, you are not alone. Headaches and migraines are common ailments that have come to ingrain themselves in the everyday life of many people.
It seems sometimes like everything or nothing at all can bring on a headache or a migraine. Everything from food to the weather have been known to have an impact on whether you will experience headaches or not.
So what can be done to help fight back against the pounding between our ears? Experts suggest not staying in fixed positions, such as at a computer or desk, for long periods of time. Take periodic breaks throughout computer or long sitting work to stifle impending headaches. Additionally, exercising and drinking eight 8-oz. glasses of water per day can also help to avoid migraines and headaches.
General chiropractic treatment involves moving or manipulating the spine without any type of surgery or drug involved. According to research and a 2001 report released by Duke University Evidence-Based Practice Center researchers, spinal manipulation is a valid treatment option for tension headaches and headaches that originate in the neck. Researchers found that the spinal manipulation used by chiropractors resulted in quick resolutions of headaches that started in the neck. They also found that the spinal manipulation did not have as many side effects and had longer lasting tension relief effects than normal prescription medication.
Another study in 1995 in the Journal of Manipulative and Physiological Therapeutics claimed the same spinal manipulation therapy used in chiropractic therapy was also an effective treatment of tension headaches and that those who stopped using the chiropractic methods after a month benefited more than those patients who only were prescribed medications for migraines and headaches.
